Amid escalating political unrest in Iran, a second batch of Indian students stranded in the country has returned safely to India, bringing relief to anxious families—especially in Jammu and Kashmir.
The students arrived at Delhi airport on Tuesday via Mahan Air flights from Tehran. While one group travelled from Shiraz to Tehran before flying to India, another batch was directly repatriated from the Iranian capital. Along with the students, several Indian pilgrims were also on board the evacuation flights.
Majority Are Medical Students from J&K
Most of the returning students are medical aspirants enrolled at leading Iranian institutions, including:
- Tehran University of Medical Sciences
- Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences
- Isfahan University
- Golestan University
- Shiraz University
- Arak University
The students bore their travel expenses and coordinated their return amid challenging circumstances.
“Extremely Tense Situation,” Say Students
Students who returned described the situation in Tehran as “extremely tense”. Limited internet connectivity, evening movement restrictions, and ongoing violent protests across several regions have added to the uncertainty and fear.
“Access to information was restricted, and safety concerns were growing by the day,” one student shared after landing in Delhi.

In response to the unrest, Iranian universities have rescheduled examinations for basic sciences, pre-internship, and other medical courses to March 4, 2026. Meanwhile, another batch of Indian students awaiting evacuation is scheduled to depart from Iran today.

Families, particularly in Kashmir, expressed immense relief at the safe return of their children. However, concerns persist for students who are still awaiting evacuation as the political situation in Iran remains volatile.
As developments continue, Indian students pursuing education abroad are once again reminded of the importance of emergency preparedness, institutional coordination, and timely support during global crises.
