In a major stride towards building a tech-driven, future-ready education system, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance research, digital learning, and innovation in the Indian educational ecosystem.
The collaboration aims to bring Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), extended reality, gamification, and data analytics into mainstream learning—making education more accessible, inclusive, engaging, and outcome-focused for millions of students across the country.
Accelerating NEP 2020 Vision
School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar called the partnership a crucial step in realising India’s New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF).
According to him, the next phase of learning demands full-scale digital transformation:
“All textbooks must be digitised and made available in 22 scheduled languages to support mother-tongue-based education. Content creation should now focus on gamification, animation, videos and extended reality.”
He also emphasised the urgent need for Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) and high-quality AI-powered pedagogical tools that can support innovative lesson planning and smarter assessments.
